Damon's Work Week

Every year, Damon and whoever else wants to go, usually Andrew Harris, go down to Nine Mile Canyon. They go to some property that Damon's buddy at work owns. We call it a work week because they go and fix fences, make trails, whatever needs to be done. In return they can go camping there whenever they want. This year they were going to build an outhouse. For fun, while they are there, they get to ride four-wheelers, shoot guns, all that adverturous outdoor stuff. Who knows.

Every year something tragic happens to them, so Briena and I hate them going every year. Every year we try and talk them out of going. Two years ago, Damon broke his pinky finger with a fence pounder. Last year they rolled the four-wheelers and Andrews truck brakes caught on fire on the way home. This year even more tragic.

They left on Wednesday, called us later that night and told us the truck broke down in the canyon. They left the trailer up on top and coasted the truck to the bottom; then hitch-hiked out of the canyon about 1 1/2 hours away back to Price where they would stay in a hotel until morning. Damon's brother Derek would come up the next morning, from Cedar City to try and fix the truck, since he thought is was the water pump. Well, it was the waterpump, but the new one Derek bought had a crack in it. They found another one at a Dogde shop in Price, but didn't have sunlight in time to fix it that night. Derek went back home, since he had to work the next day, and Damon's other brother and friend, Nick, came down to try and rescue again. They got the Truck fixed and headed up to get the trailer. When they go to the trailer they found out someone broke in, by breaking the latch, and stole just about everything. They took their clothes, cooler of drinks, Damon's tools, and even the tie down straps for the four-wheelers that they left, because they didn't have the keys to take them. They left a big box of food, including steaks, Damon's hiking boots, the four-wheelers, and the case to Damon's chain saw. they just had back luck all around this trip. They packed up and headed home before anything else could happen.

Here are a few pictures of some of Nine Mile Canyon.

I think with all the problems you have had every year, maybe you ought to rethink going every year. I am glad everyone is safe
